i went to a local club this weekend and was having a good time w/ some friends when i noticed the ppl in the music video the dj was spinning were asian. more than that, they weren’t dressed as geishas or martial artists, they were the crew known as far east movement, and i’ve actually listened to a good bit of their work. this wouldn’t be a big deal if it were ktown in LA, or asian night in some NYC or ATL club, but since this is alabama it’s somewhat of a shock. next day, i see that they made #9 on itunes and #16 on billboard’s top 100. that makes them the first asian-american group to make it to the mainstream charts. grats to FM for “making it.”
*Update: right now this is #3 on itunes. will they make it to #1? also noticed that this song took a rather slow route to notability. it’s been out since november of last year (although the video has only been available since june)! i wonder how many other songs take this long to mature?
if you’re interested, their album containing this song will be released october 12th. (more…)
